TOPEX Robinson, together with a handful of his Pirates, will have a reunion of sorts when they battle San Sebastian on Tuesday in the NCAA Season 95 seniors basketball tournament.
"Playing against San Sebastian will always be something special for me," said the former point guard who graduated from San Sebastian College in 2001 and also served as the head coach of the Golden Stags twice. "Sabi ko nga kapag binalatan mo ako, Baste ang dugo ko. I’m a proud Sebastinian and I will always be."
It's not just Robinson, with a number of current Lyceum players also spending time in the San Sebastian red-and-golds, namely Jayson David, Renzo Navarro, Rhanzelle Yong and Spencer Pretta.
"Sabi ko nga, mas dumarami na kami ngayon. I’m more excited after the game, yung how many San Sebastian players that I have that will sing the school hymn," he said.
Robinson still has ties with San Sebastian, being the one to recruit Allyn Bulanadi from Davao in Palarong Pambansa.
"I'm happy for Allyn and sa naging improvement niya. He’s really blossomed into a good player and I’m sure his dad will be proud of him," he said.
And as much as Robinson expects a fiercely contested duel, he just wants the Pirates to enjoy this experience as they aim to improve their 2-1 win-loss card.
"I’m excited to play against San Sebastian. I’m happy na yung mga players ko that are from San Sebastian are gonna play their teammates also. At the end of the day, it’s good for all of us and it’s gonna be competition," he said.
"Maliit lang ang mundo ng basketball eh. I wanna always make sure that I will always treat them with respect because you never know, we might see each other again. It’s always about building the relationship with any player that plays basketball and you always have to be a blessing to others no matter whether you’re a Pirate, whether you’re a Stag, whether you’re a General, even if you’re a Lion, it’s about brotherhood and it’s about family."
