LYCEUM of the Philippines gets the exclusive benefit of hosting the historic 100th season of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
The celebration of the collegiate league’s centennial year starts on Monday, July 1, with the formal turnover rites to be held on July 10 at Casino Espanol Manila.
Jose Rizal University hosted Season 99 which saw the San Beda Red Lions regain the centerpiece men’s basketball championship.
Initially, the NCAA Management Committee decided for all 10 schools to act as co-hosts in the historic centenary celebration of the country’s oldest collegiate league.
Eventually, the group decided that hosting accountability remains foremost, especially with the NCAA looking forward in marking its next 100 years in history.
“Besides if you consider the hosting calendar of the NCAA every season, it’s also Lyceum’s turn to host this season. So it’s only fitting that it will be the official host for the NCAA Season 100,” Arellano University’s top official Peter Cayco said.
The event will be a special one for Lyceum, which actually serves as school host for the very first time since becoming a regular member of the league in 2015.
Lyceum becomes the latest in a distinguished list of schools that hosted landmark celebrations in NCAA history, joining former member De La Salle (host during the silver anniversary in 1949-50), San Sebastian College (golden anniversary in 1974-75), and Jose Rizal University (diamond anniversary in 1999-2000).
The NCAA Season 100 kicks off in September at the Mall of Asia Arena.
