LYCEUM used a scintillating third quarter surge to beat Perpetual Help, 76-58, on Friday to remain unscathed in the NCAA Season 93 seniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
The Pirates continued their winning ways as they stayed unbeaten in six games. They did it after a 16-0 run in the third after trailing by one, 35-34.
CJ Perez once again led the way for the Pirates as he finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Mer Ayaay (12 points, nine rebounds) and Mike Nzeusseu (nine points, nine rebounds) flirted with double-doubles for the Pirates, who entered the fourth quarter with a 52-38 lead.
Nzeusseu provided a highlight play early in the final canto with a left-handed dunk to give LPU a 56-42 lead.
LPU assistant coach Jeff Perlas, who spoke to the media as head coach Topex Robinson rushed to Alaska's game in the PBA, said the Pirates had a lackluster first half perhaps due to the big crowd that came to watch the Pirates.
"During the first half, medyo tight sila. They were not having fun. Parang ngayon lang nagkaroon ng malaking crowd kasi kaka-start lang ng school year. During the half, coach Topex reminded them it's not about our offense, it's our defense," said Perlas.
Prince Eze contributed 21 points and 19 rebounds for Perpetual Help, which slipped to 2-3. The Altas failed to sustain their momentum after they opened the match with a 6-0 lead.
