LYCEUM used a strong surge late in the third quarter to break away from Perpetual and take the 89-74 victory on Thursday in the NCAA Season 95 seniors basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Raymar Caduyac orchestrated the Pirates' pullaway, swinging the game from a close 55-49 affair before using a 9-0 binge for a 66-53 advantage to end the frame.
Lyceum continued to run Perpetual to the ground in the payoff period as led by 20 points, 85-65, after a Jayvee Marcelino jumper with 4:03 still to play.
Caduyac uncorked 11 points, nine assists, six boards and two steals as he set the table for the Pirates' attack.
"We reminded them about being fearless. We always felt that after those two losses (to San Beda and Arellano) that we were not confident. We reminded them that they need to be fearless and that when they make a decision, as long as they have courage, it will be okay with me," said coach Topex Robinson.
Mike Nzeusseu led the cavalry with 21 points on an efficient 7-of-11 shooting, along with five rebounds, two assists and one block as Lyceum moved up to solo second with its 8-3 card.
Jaycee Marcelino also scored 21 points, eight rebounds, and two assists, as twin Jayvee had 10 points, four boards, and two dimes in the win.
Perpetual, meanwhile, sunk to 3-7 in the standings.
Tonton Peralta topscored for the Altas in the losing cause with 20 points and two rebounds, as Ben Adamos got 15 points, five boards and two blocks.
