LYCEUM used a superb fourth quarter to get back to its winning ways with a 79-71 triumph over Mapua on Friday in the NCAA Season 95 seniors basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Jaycee Marcelino poured 14 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks for the Pirates as they bounced back from their tough 84-82 shock defeat to Emilio Aguinaldo College last week.
"We're happy that we got back," said coach Topex Robinson as his side improved to a 2-1 card.
"We grinded it out with Mapua and we're just happy. It's kinda ugly with the way we played, but we're always going to take the good with the bad."
Toci Tansingco had a season-best 14 points on a 4-of-7 shooting from deep, to go with three boards, while Jeff Santos drilled three triples to wind up with 11 points and five boards.
Reymar Caduyac uncorked eight of his 12 points in that 18-point fourth quarter, adding his seven assists and five rebounds, as Jayson David tallied a double-double with 10 points, 12 boards and five assists.
Lyceum set the tone with an 8-1 run to open the final canto as it turned a tight 61-57 lead to a 69-58 advantage as Mapua struggled to get back in the game and fell to its third straight loss.
Rookie sniper Paolo Hernandez unleashed 17 of his 19 points in the second half, to go with five rebounds in the tough defeat for the Cardinals.
Cyril Gonzales had 16 points, two boards and two assists for Mapua.
