AS part of Lyceum’s preparation for the coming NCAA season, CJ Perez and MJ Ayaay will leave for the US next week to undergo skills training at the Superhandles camp of Jon Hildebrandt.
“They are going to train in Oregon,” said LPU coach Topex Robinson of the camp run by the renowned skills coach who played for Clackamas Community College, Linfield College, and Western Oregon University.
Robinson said LPU will shoulder the expenses of the overseas training, a first for the Pirates program, saying it is the school's way of contributing to Perez and Ayaay’s preparation for the pro ranks.
Perez is tipped to be one of the top picks in the next PBA rookie draft.
“They are going to turn pro so we want to make sure that we help them,” said Robinson.
Robinson said LPU will not be affected by Perez and Ayaay’s foreign training as the Pirates' first stringers are on a break since winning the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup as Zark’s Burger.
The Pirates' second stringers and Team B players represent the school in preseason tournaments like the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup.
The 6-2 Perez captured the MVP awards in both the D-League and the NCAA last season. He is also part of the Gilas Pilipinas pool for the 2023 Fiba World Cup.
Ayaay played an instrumental in the Jawbreakers’ run to the D-League title.
