LA Salle Greenies rode a late blitz to pull off a come-from-behind win over the Lyceum Junior Pirates, 90-83, in the second round of the NCAA Season 93 juniors basketball tournament on Friday at The Arena in San Juan.
Joel Cagulangan led LSGH with 19 points and six rebounds, while Inand Fornillos added 17 markers and 14 boards. Joshua David and Joshua Marcos chipped in 14 points apiece.
“We adjusted and we remained patient after missing outside shots in the first half. Individual defense, team defense, more defense and discipline helped us win,” LSGH coach Marvin Bienvenida said.
Despite trailing by 14 at the half, the Greenies went on a 27-14 run in the third quarter to cut the Junior Pirates’ lead to one, 63-64.
After a series of nine deadlocks in the fourth quarter, Cagulangan and David then scored a combined eight points to secure their win.
McLaude Guadana led Lyceum with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Neil Ruiz chipped in 19 points.
The Greenies now have a 9-2 win-loss record while the Junior Pirates fell to 5-6.
“This win shows that we’re continuing to get better as a team. We responded that we could be consistent after the first round,” Bienvenida said.
