IT was a refreshing sight to see Letran play in a pristine white jersey.
The last time the Knights wore these immaculate white uniforms was back in 2012, when Louie Alas was still at the helm and Kevin Alas steered the squad to the NCAA Season 88 Finals.
But Letran Mancom representative Fr. Vic Calvo said that there's really no special reason for the return of the Letran whites -- not even the school's quadrecentennial celebration.
It was quite simple, really.
"Ni-request ng NCAA," he said.
Traditionally, the Knights' light uniforms are always red, while its dark are in dark blue.
Problems, however, arise when it faces teams which use red as their away jerseys, namely San Beda, Lyceum, San Sebastian, Mapua, and Emilio Aguinaldo College, leading to Letran overusing its dark blue ones.
"Ang objection nila, yung red daw hindi light. Pero ganoon na kami ever since, red ang light namin. Pag kalaban mo ang Lyceum, naka-red sila, so kami ang naga-adjust," said Calvo.
The amiable school administrator, though, clarified that the red uniforms are still a part of Letran's jerseys.
"Nandoon pa rin, parehas pa rin yun," he said before joking, "Pag may pera, eh di bumili ng red."
