LETRAN put Jose Rizal University on lockdown to pull off the 55-43 conquest for back-to-back wins in the NCAA Season 95 seniors basketball tournament Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Bonbon Batiller stepped up for the Knights with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists as they rose to a 2-1 record.
"Nag-step up si Bonbon and definitely itong season na ito, kakailanganin namin ang isang veteran like him," said coach Bonnie Tan.
Scoring a total of just four points in the first two games, Batiller found his hot streak as Letran got an early 15-point lead, 34-19.
Renato Ular added eight points and five boards, as Paolo Javillonar got seven points, including three straight lay-ups that made it 48-35 in the final frame.
The Knights' defense was on point, holding the Heavy Bombers to just 28-percent shooting, but they kept their foes in the game with their 24 turnovers.
"We struggled on our errors. Di pa rin namin nakuha ang gusto namin, which is ma-lessen yung turnovers. We have to correct our mistakes," lamented Tan.
Ry dela Rosa topped the still winless JRU (0-3) with 15 points and three rebounds as their rally to cut the deficit down to just six, 38-32, in the third quarter fell way short before stumbling in the payoff period.
