LA TENORIO believes it will be Fran Yu who will bring Letran the NCAA crown as the Knights head to a rubber match for the Season 95 crown on Tuesday against San Beda.
Tenorio, who serves as assistant coach of the Knights, said he has so much belief in Yu that he can carry Letran to the NCAA crown. The Barangay Ginebra guard made his belief known after texting Yu prior to Game Two of the finals last Friday.
“Hindi ako nakapunta so I texted him,” said Tenorio, who missed Game Two due to the Kings’ match against Columbian in the PBA. “So I texted him. Naisip ko lang na itext siya.”
“Out of nowhere, tinext ko siya na siya ang magdadala ng championship, not our veterans. He is the point guard and he is going to bring this team to the championship. ‘Yun ang sabi ko sa kanya. Siya ang magdadala. I want him to get the ball every time especially kapag nagkakagulo.”
Yu nearly brought Letran to the crown in Game Two, scoring 23 points following an amazing display of shooting. The Knights though fell short, dropping a 79-76 defeat against the Red Lions to forge a do-or-die game for the crown.
Tenorio said he himself was surprised at how Yu played in Game Two.
“I didn’t expect na he will come out aggressive offensively and defensively. He is a crucial part of our team no doubt. Nag-cramps lang daw siya. Sayang. We really needed him especially in the end game to control the game.”
“But I’m happy that he responded sa naging text ko sa kanya kahit maikling text lang ‘yun,” said Tenorio.
Tenorio hopes the result of Game Three will be different, and sees Yu continue his stellar play in the series.
“Hopefully, in the next game, madala niya ‘yung team at ma-lift up niya ‘yung confidence ng team. Sa kanya talaga nagsisimula. Nahahawa ‘yung buong team. He is the barometer of the team,” said Tenorio.
