EMILIO Aguinaldo College boosted its bid for a Final Four berth in the NCAA Season 100 men’s basketball tournament after turning back San Sebastian College, 101-94, Saturday at the FilOiL EcoOil Arena in San Juan.
Captain King Gurtiza turned in a career-game 27 points and served as the spark in the Generals’ second win in three outings in the second round of the eliminations.
Overall, the Generals are back at the .500 mark at 6-6, forging a three-way tie for fourth to sixth place along with Letran and Lyceum.

“Actually sa dugout I reminded them na hindi lang every game is crucial, but every possession is crucial kasi puwedeng mag-matter yun in the end kung manananalo ka or matatalo ka. It could move you up or it can bring you down,” Emilio Aguinaldo College coach Jerson Cabiltes said.
“Maganda naman at nanalo kami. Now it’s a triple tie for fourth place.”
Wilmar Oftana complimented Gurtiza with 17 points and former national team player Harvey Pagsanjan added 16 for Emilio Aguinaldo College, which welcomed back guard Axel Doromal to the active roster after coming off a strained hamstring injury.
San Sebastian couldn’t score a fitting follow up to its 87-85 win over Jose Rizal University three days ago.
The Stags’ ninth loss in 11 outings spoiled the big 30-point, 11-rebound game by Tristan Felebrico as the team continued to stay at the bottom of the standings.
