KEN Villapando's layup in the final 18.5 seconds lifted San Sebastian to a gutsy 102-101 overtime win past Letran on Tuesday in the NCAA Season 95 seniors basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Villapando followed up his go-ahead bucket with a big rebound in the last 1.3 ticks before the Golden Stags' defense held strong late and watched as Bonbon Batiller missed the potential winner as time expired.
That was the biggest of his six points and seven rebounds as San Sebastian snapped its three-game losing streak to pull their standings even to 3-3 in their first game in three weeks.
RK Ilagan shot 3-of-7 from deep to pour 22 points and made seven assists and two rebounds before hitting the showers with 3:52 left in overtime.
Allyn Bulanadi picked up the slack and finished with 21 points, four rebounds and two dimes, the last of which was the dish to Villapando's eventual winner.
Alvin Capobres added 19 points, two assists and two steals, but could not secure the win in regulation as he missed his drive in the waning seconds of the fourth period.
San Sebastian forced Letran to shoot just 36-percent from the field.
"Every practice, yan ang pinapractice natin, yung defense. Kailangan lang naming gawin yung tama lagi which is box out, rebounds, at sumunod lang sa gameplan," said assistant coach Melo Banua, who called the shots in lieu of the suspended coach Egay Macaraya.
"Mas gutom yung mga batang manalo eh."
The Knights suffered their second straight defeat to fall to 5-3.
The loss spoiled Larry Muyang's career showing, where he had 32 points, 18 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.
Jerrick Balanza got 21 points, four boards and four assists, while Fran Yu had 13 points, seven dimes, five rebounds, and three steals.
