UNHERALDED bench players Chester Jungco and Hommer Macatangay saved Jose Rizal University in the endgame to protect homecourt with a 64-58 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College Thursday in the NCAA Season 95 seniors basketball tournament.

The duo combined for 12 of the Heavy Bombers' 26 fourth quarter points as they fought back from a 45-38 deficit entering the payoff period.

Jungco accounted for 12 points, eight coming in the fourth frame as he triggered JRU's 16-2 tear that made it a 54-47 lead in his side's favor with 4:11 to play, to go with his eight rebounds, two assists, and two blocks

Macatangay, meanwhile, drained big baskets in the final canto for his lone four points in the duel.

The Heavy Bombers improved to a 3-4 win-loss slate as they won three of their last four outings and matched their win total from the season prior.

John Amores paced JRU with 16 points and six rebounds, including the dagger freebies with 13.5 seconds remaining that made it a 10-point lead, 64-54, before late EAC baskets cut the spread down to just six.

"Actually itong game na ito, it's all about heart. These are young players pero yun nga ang malaki sa kanila, na di sila basta-basta papayag na matalo sila, lalo na homecourt namin," said coach Louie Gonzalez.

JL Delos Santos also tallied a double-double with his 10 points and 10 rebounds to make up for the pedestrian showing of Ry dela Rosa, who collected eight points and four boards before fouling out with 8:01 to play in the final canto.

"It's a game of streaks. Wala si Agem (Miranda), tapos foul trouble lahat ng players ko, so tinitignan ko na lang sila sa mata kung sino ang hahatakin ko. Alam na nila kung ano ang kailangan nila para manalo sa larong ito," said Gonzalez, as the Heavy Bombers weathered the absence of leading scorer Agem Miranda, who was serving a one-game suspension.

The Generals dropped their fourth straight game to sink down to 1-5.

Marwin Taywan led EAC with 14 points, five steals, three assists, and two rebounds, as CJ Cadua and Jethro Mendoza both had 11 in the defeat.

    The Scores:

    JRU 64 -- Amores 16, Jungco 12, Delos Santos 10, Dela Rosa 8, Vasquez 6, Steinl 4, Macatangay 4, Dionisio 2, Aguilar 2, Arenal 0, Abaoag 0.
