JOSE Rizal University added a pair of Negrense standouts ahead of its NCAA Season 100 campaign.
Heavy Bombers coach Louie Gonzalez confirmed the commitments of prolific scorer John Lloyd Martinez and big man Shannon Sealey from Bacolod Trinity Christian School to the Kalentong-based school.
Gonzalez happy for new recruits
"We're happy na na-appreciate ng mga bata 'yung game namin and they chose to join us for college," he said.
Martinez, 19, is a 6-foot-1 slasher who led the NBTC Visayas Regionals in scoring after averaging 29.6 points for Trinity-Davies Paint/El Tzino.
He continued to lead the Negros Occidental squad in the 2024 Smart-NBTC National Finals with his average of 14.3 points on 37-percent shooting from the field, to go with 5.0 rebounds and 2.7 steals.
Sealey a rebounding demon
Sealey, on the other hand, is a 19-year-old, 6-foot-4 center who showed his worth in the Nationals where he ranked second in rebounds with his 11.7 rebounds a ga. He was also third in rejections with 2.3 blocks, to go with his 9.0 points and 2.0 steals.
That also included a five-block performance in Trinity's tough Supreme 16 exit against Arellano, but nonetheless earned himself a spot in the NBTC Nationals Prospects roster in the Manila Showcase.
Their addition to JRU will be a big boost for a squad which still has Agem Miranda, Marwin Dionisio, and Joshua Guiab and is looking to build on a promising campaign where it finished with a 10-8 win-loss record.
