A FINAL Four team was what Jose Rizal University coach Vergel Meneses saw from the Heavy Bombers when they overcame Adamson in the Filoil preseason quarterfinals.

But on whether the Heavy Bombers can carry over that form in the NCAA is another question.

The Heavy Bombers, led by veteran guard Teytey Teodoro, made it to this year’s Filoil semifinals after beating Adamson, 67-56, as they continue their stellar run in the preseason.

Already a finalist in a recent Got Skills preseason tournament, the Heavy Bombers will look to make it to the finals at the expense of unbeaten San Beda on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

the PBA great was left so impressed with their play against Adamson on Wednesday that he sees a Final Four team in his Heavy Bombers if they play the same way in the NCAA.

“Honestly, if we will play the same way kanina, we can go to the Final Four. ‘Yung consistency every game, we can win,” said Meneses.

“Kapag nakikita ko ‘yung larong ‘yun sa NCAA, I know we will go places,” said Meneses.

Against the Falcons, JRU’s top gunner Teodoro had 23 points while Ervin Grospe, who is fast becoming the emerging second option for the Heavy Bombers, had 16 points and eight rebounds.

But it was the little things which JRU did against Adamson that made Meneses believe that the Heavy Bombers have the potential to make a deep run in the coming NCAA Season 93.

“Everybody is talking,” said Meneses, referring to how JRU was communicating on the floor. “Ngayon ko lang nakita ‘yan. Sabi ko nga sa kanila, you have to talk inside and communicate.”

Even the play of his bigs particularly Abdel Poutouochi and Razak Abdul Wahab, who combined for three of the team’s four blocks in the Adamson game, left Meneses pleasantly surprised.

“This is the first time that I saw Abdel block a shot. Ngayon ko lang halos nakita ‘yan. The whole NCAA, parang hindi ko natandaang bumlangka siya. Even Abdul,” said Meneses.

JRU will have a chance to continue its splendid preseason run with an upset win over San Beda, which Meneses admitted is easier said than done.

That alone is enough reminder for the former PBA MVP that there's still a long road ahead for this JRU group.

“Hindi naman ganun ka-deep ang bench namin. We are not like San Beda na first group, second group, third group, malakas,” said Meneses.
