JOSE Rizal University showed its might just at the right time as it ran through University of Perpetual Help, 85-52, to strengthen its final four bid in the NCAA Season 93 on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
The victory allowed the Heavy Bombers to move to solo third as they improved to an 8-6 record and create a bit of separation from the rest of the pack.
Defense was once again the name of the game for the Heavy Bombers as they limited the Altas to five points in the first quarter to set the tone for an early blowout.
Perpetual Help was limited to just 15 points in the first half as the Heavy Bombers cruised to an easy victory.
"Siguro yung defense namin. It’s our defense yun ang main kanina. Good defense, naging good offense," said JRU head coach Vergel Meneses.
"Actually sa game importante yung start talaga. Finu-frustrate mo yung kalaban, keep on frustrating them, importante we finish strong," he added.
The Bombers were all business as they padded their lead to as many as 35 in the fourth quarter with MJ Dela Virgen and Abdoul Poutouchi putting the finishing touches for their win.
"We have to stay focused, we’re not yet in, anything can happen, every game counts. We can’t be complacent, We should be worried about our team, gawin lang namin ang trabaho namin," Meneses continued.
Dela Virgen topscored for JRU with 18 points to go along with eight assists.
Poutouchi added 16 points and seven rebounds while Jed Mendoza chipped in 12.
It was another wasted effort for MVP frontrunner Prince Eze with 23 points and 20 rebounds as Perpetual’s Final Four hopes are slowly dimming as they fell to 4-9.
