JOSE RIZAL University took down a big fish in Mapua but it was a win that's certainly dampened by what transpired late in the game.
The Heavy Bombers snapped a two-game losing streak in a big way by taking a 66-63 win over the Cardinals on Friday in a cross-bracket match-up in the NCAA Season 101 at the Playtime Filoil Center.
However, the focus of the Heavy Bombers now is on forward Justin Lozano who landed head first after contesting Cyrus Nitura's attempt in the 2:08 mark of the first fourth quarter.
Lozano, who finished with 13 points forthe Heavy Bombers, had to be stretchered out of the game.
“Prayers kay Justin Lozano. He’s one of my key players,” coach Nani Epondulan said.
“Actually, he was the highest scorer pero aksidente naman talaga [‘yong nangyari’] ‘di naman talaga sinasadya pero I just hope he’s okay.”
After the buzzer, Epondulan confirmed that Lozano was already conscious, but he's yet to be cleared as he's set to undergo further tests.
Allan Laurenaria also finished with 13 points to go along seven rebounds for the now 4-4 Heavy Bombers.
The Cardinals' struggles continued as they dropped to a 3-4 record with Clint Escamis once again struggling, going 1-of-7 for only two points. JC Recto and Cyril Gonzales, led the way with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
The scores:
JRU 66 - Lozano 13, Laurenaria 13, Argente 8, Garupil 7, Salvador 7, Panapanaan 6, Benitez 4, Duque 4, Herrera 2, Castillo 2, Sarmiento 0, Peñaverde 0
