Reeling from the Heavy Bombers' first loss in NCAA Season 102, Lawrence Mangubat was unstoppable with his 23 points on a flawless 10-of-10 shooting from the free throw line that went with five rebounds and five assists to steer the Kalentong crew to a share of Group A lead with their 3-1 record.
Jahmir Eligado also made mincemeat of the Pirates frontline, battering his way to an 22-point, 16-rebound double-double on a perfect 10-of-10 clip from the field.
His seven points were crucial in JRU's 28-point second quarter that established a 53-35 halftime lead that ballooned to as high as 34 points.
"We knew that this game will be a test of character sa amin kung paano kami mag-bounce back sa tough loss laban sa San Beda. Alam din naman namin na yung LPU, hindi ilalatag sa silver platter sa amin yung panalo so masaya ako na nag-perform sila," said coach Nani Epondulan, putting behind their 65-62 loss to San Beda last Saturday.
It truly was a game which belonged to JRU, dominating the boards, 47 to 27 which led to 20 second chance points while also going 8-of-16 from downtown.
Chris Hubilla didn't need to be at his best as he mustered nine points and six boards, as Jalen Garcia and Sanlea Peñaverde scored eight apiece.
Unfortunately for LPU, it was just left in the dust with Roger Ondoa topscoring for the Pirates with 21 points, four rebounds, and three steals.
