JIMBOY Pasturan waxed hot at the most opportune time as he towed St. Benilde to an all-important 84-77 win over Perpetual Help in the NCAA Season 94 on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
Pasturan made three from beyond the rainbow country in the final six minutes of the game as the Blazers pulled away from what looked like a see-saw battle at the start.
The former Adamson Baby Falcon drained back-to-back three-pointers as the Blazers took the lead for good, before draining the backbreaking trey with a minute and 27 seconds left to give the Blazers an 80-70 lead.
With the victory, the Blazers put themselves in a good position after the first round as they overtook the Altas and tied the Letran Knights at third place with 6-3 records.
“That's what we are hoping and praying for last week. We wanted to get some wins to close out the first round and carry it to the next round. Hopefully, we could play better basketball in the second round,” said Benilde head coach TY Tang.
“By far, this is our biggest win,” he added.
Justin Gutang led the Blazers with 20 points and 13 rebounds as Yankie Haruna also finished with 20.
Pasturan finished with 13 points in 20 minutes of action off the bench.
Prince Eze led the Altas with 24 points, 12 boards, and four blocks as Kim Aurin finished with 23 points for the Altas who dropped to fifth place with a 5-3 record.
It was a double black-eye for Perpetual Help as it lost star guard Edgar Charcos in the third quarter with what looked like a knee injury. He never returned to the game.
