EVEN Arellano head coach Jerry Codiñera was lost for words with how Robert Bolick performed in San Beda’s 98-79 win on Friday in the NCAA Season 94.
The do-it-all guard came out with a performance for the ages, dropping 50 points in the win, the first time in 44 years that an NCAA player breached 50 since the great Lim Eng Beng scored 55 for La Salle.
For Codinera, there’s little doubt in his mind that this kid will go places.
“Magaling naman yun. No doubt. Mahusay naman talaga. He’s good very promising yan. Watch out PBA, there’s a new kid on the block,” said Codinera.
“Iba ang laro nito. Dos yan e. He’s a good two guard. He’ll go places. May character lumaro, relentless, di siya nakukuntento, I’ve seen him play, good luck to him,” he added.
Known as one of the greatest defenders in the history of Philippine basketball, Codinera gave his two cents in trying to stop Bolick. For him, it’s all a matter of sacrifice.
“Sacrifice lang yun. If you have pride in yourself, ibubuhos ko lahat ng limang fooul ko pero di ka iiscore sakin ng ganun kalaki. It’s just a matter of sacrificing, knowing where he is, his strength and weaknesses,” Codinera explained.
That, however, is easier said than done as Codinera believes there’s no one in this level that can really defend the most recent UAAP – NCAA Press Corps Player of the Year awardee.
“For me, there’s no collegiate player that can stop him. Marami rin siyang katulong sa Beda. Total sacrifice from the players lang talaga.”
