FRANKIE Lim knows that whatever breakthrough Perpetual had last season means nothing now as he handles a new-look Altas squad.
"I have six new guys. Bago lang din kasi itong ginagawa namin," he said.
But as much as the four-time NCAA champion coach sees his side as rebuilding, he doesn't discount finding gems with his new recruits.
One of those is Jefner Egan, who lit up for 23 points in helping Perpetual score a 71-65 victory over Diliman College-Gerry's Grill on Tuesday to help his side break through in the 2019 PBA D-League.
The 21-year-old forward has been a welcome boost for the Altas, being an inside-outside threat who makes up for his height with his grit to pair up with another hardworking big man in Ben Adamos.
And Lim only had great things to say for Egan.
"Mahusay siya, maganda ang attitude at work ethic. He's one of my hardest working guys in the team. All praises ako sa kanya," said the seasoned mentor.
But rather than be overwhelmed with the praises, Egan keeps his focus on the now, which is helping the young Perpetual team compete in the developmental ranks.
"Yun nga, 0-2 kami kaya sa ensayo pa lang, sinasabihan na kami ni coach Frankie na ayusin ang depensa namin. Maganda naman ang naging bunga," said the Cagayan de Oro native who played high school ball in Adamson.
Still, there's no question in Lim's eyes on the potential Egan has.
And he even dared to say this early that big things are in store for his young forward.
"Para sa akin, I'm looking at him as a PBA material at this point of his career," he said.
