JAVEE Mocon contributed a double-double for San Beda on Friday but said he and the entire team could have performed better especially in the second half where the Red Lions survived a scare against Jose Rizal University.

Mocon had 19 points and 15 rebounds for the Red Lions in their victory over JRU, 65-60, in NCAA Season 93 on Friday. But despite his solid numbers, the San Beda cager was first to take the blame for the collapse with his sloppy play

"Dikit 'yung laban. Ayaw sana namin ng ganun," said Mocon, whose team led by as many as 18 points only for the big gap to slip away. "Sa part ko naman, dami kong turnovers."

Mocon had five of San Beda's 25 turnovers, an aspect of their game that head coach Boyet Fernandez emphasized during the postgame press conference.

Fernandez even got mad at Robert Bolick in the final seconds of the when he committed a late turnover that, fortunately for the Red Lions, didn't affect the result of the game.

"We gave up 27 points in the third quarter which is not our usual self and we had 25 turnovers again. Consistent kami," Fernandez said, referring to the 25 turnovers San Beda also committed in its previous match against San Sebastian.

Fernandez also said he would have blamed himself if the Red Lions collapsed in the JRU game.

"At least, we played defense today and thanks to the clutch shots of Javee and Davon (Potts) in the fourth. But frankly speaking, if we lost this game, I should blame myself for this because I rotated 15 players and the other guys didn't step up," said Fernandez, who only had Mocon, Donald Tankoua, and Potts scoring more than half of San Beda's output.

"We have to learn to take care of the basketball so we will have a good chance to be consistent to win in our ball games," said Fernandez.
