SAN Beda came up with another slow start but went on to rout Emilio Aguinaldo College, 89-72, on Thursday in the NCAA Season 95 seniors basketball tournament at EAC Sports and Cultural Center in Paco.
The Red Lions roared back from an early 12-2 hole, stringing 17 unanswered points which later ended in a 22-4 run for a 24-16 first quarter lead and never looked back.
James Canlas led San Beda with a season-best 21 points on 4 of 7 shooting from deep, to go with five rebounds and three assists.
Backcourt partner Evan Nelle added a career-high 15 points, seven dimes and four boards, including the buzzer-beating triple to end the third frame that made it a 71-45 advantage for the Red Lions.
The San Beda starters were quick to rectify their slow start as they poured 60 points in the game.
Calvin Oftana got 14 points, three rebounds, two assists and two blocks off the bench, Cameroonian big man Donald Tankoua tallied a double-double with 13 points, 11 boards and made three assists and two rejections, while Clint Doliguez got himself 10 points and three rebounds.
"I'm happy we got this win," said coach Boyet Fernandez, who commended the Generals for the tough fight they showed.
"They really prepared well today. They started strong and they really gave us a tough game. So for us, hopefully what we saw tonight, we can learn and check on the things we can check."
San Beda claimed the top spot in the standings at 3-0, while EAC fell to a 1-2 record.
Marwin Taywan topped the Generals with 20 points, four assists, four steals and three rebounds, while Kriss Gurtiza got 15 points, eight boards and three dimes.
