EMILIO Aguinaldo College continued its stellar play late in the NCAA Season 94 as it formally booted Arellano University out of contention with a 78-70 win on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Jerome Garcia and Hamadou Laminou proved to be too much for the Chiefs in the endgame as they kept the surging Arellano at bay.
A three-point play by Hamadou Laminou padded the Generals lead to nine, 72-63, with 2:03 remaining before Garcia responded to a Levi Dela Cruz three pointer to give EAC a 75-66 lead.
The Generals improved to 4-11 while the Chiefs are still winless in the second round and dropped to 4-10.
Ang maganda ngayon ay cohesive na kami. Ang sabi ko sa kanila, they have to step up and play for the fans. Sana tuloy tuloy pa. We still have three games," said EAC head coach Ariel Sison.
"We don't look at the scoreboard talaga e. Yun yung nangyari nung tumingin na sila sa scoreboard. Pero sa akin naman, ganun talaga yung basketball. Ang importante lang ay nanalo kami and we were able to withstand that rally," he added.
Garcia finished with 25 points, six rebounds and five assists to lead the Generals as JP Magullano had with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Laminou added 14 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
Levi dela Cruz scored 15 for the Chiefs, yet to win a game under interim coach Junjie Ablan.
