GJ Ylagan, Gab Dagangon lament shooting woes in Altas letdown at home vs Red Lions

    Aug 18, 2017
GJ Ylagan shot just 3-of-16 in the Altas gym as Perpetual bowed to San Beda.

PLAYING before their home crowd definitely gave Perpetual Help a big lift against the mighty San Beda all game long as the NCAA on Tour in Season 93 made its stop in the Altas gym on Wednesday.

The Altas fought tooth-and-nail against the defending champions and even looked on its way to winning with a 46-40 lead entering the halfway mark of the fourth period.

But the deafening cheers as well as the presence of former stars like Scottie Thompson could only do so much, as the Altas faltered in the endgame against the Red Lions, 53-57.

GJ Ylagan, who was held to just 3-of-16 shooting, was frustrated after letting down the huge partisan crowd cheering them on with his poor performance.

"Dito na kami lagi nage-ensayo, hindi pa kami makashoot," he said.

"Malaking tulong sila samin. Sila yung nagbibigay ng lakas sa amin e, pag nakaka-shoot kami sumisigaw sila, naha-hype kami," he said.

Gab Dagangon echoed Ylagan’s sentiments, adding it was way better than playing in enemy territory.

"Dun sa Mapua, sa kanila yung crowd. Medyo kabado ka dun, dito ganado ka," said Dagangon, referring to their previous NCAA on Tour game against Mapua in Intramuros.

"Pag naka-kashoot ka, sigawan. Sa tingin ko nakatulong yun sa amin ngayon kaya dumikit kami."

He then rued the team's missed free-throws late in their sixth loss in nine matches.

Perpetual botched 3-of-5 shots from the foul line, including one by Dagangon himself in the final 90 seconds that proved costly for the Altas.

But he vowed to work on it right after the match.

"Siguro kung napasok namin yung tatlo baka mag-iba pa takbo ng laro. Nung mga past games namin natatalo kami dahil dyan. Iwo-work namin yan kasi importante yun talaga," he said.
