Gerald Dizon knocks halfcourt heave on first try as Altas take NCAA Shooting Stars crown

    Sep 1, 2017

PERPETUAL Help trio of GJ Ylagan, Jielo Razon, and alumnus Gerald Dizon topped the Shooting Stars competition on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Perpetual beat an Arellano side bannered by Zach Nicholls, Donald Gumaru, and former Chief Kobe Camacho.

"Masarap sa pakiramdam. Bago pa lang, nagusap na kami na kunin namin to. No pressure lang, tira lang ng tira," said Ylagan.

Dizon shone the brightest in the final round as he nailed the halfcourt shot in just his first attempt as the Altas clocked in 24.8 seconds.

It was in that range that the Chiefs struggled as Nicholls drilled the heave at 41.7 ticks.

"Pag tira ko, tuwid eh. Sabi ko papasok to kahit board. Buti umawa," said Dizon.

Perpetual and Arellano emerged as the top two teams after the opening round after finishing 20 seconds and 31 seconds, respectively.

Other participants were Dave Sanchez, MJ Dela Virgen, Toby Agustin (Jose Rizal University); Dan Sara, Clint Doliguez, and Evan Nelle (San Beda); Chico Lanete, Spencer Pretta, Mclaude Guadana (Lyceum); Bong Melacoton, Jervin Guzman, and Maui Cruz (Emilio Aguinaldo College); Paul Riguera, Michael Are Rustin Rodriguez (San Sebastian); Rey Guevarra,, Daryl Pascual, and Neil Guarino (Letran); Randy Alcantara, Leo Gabo, and Clint Escamis (Mapua); Karl Santos, Edward Dixon, and Joshua David (Benilde).
