Skidding Generals breathe sigh of relief as Francis Munsayac says ankle injury nothing serious

    Jul 21, 2017

FRANCIS Munsayac assured the Emilio Aguinaldo College community that his injury is not that serious and he’ll try to get back in the court to as early as Tuesday when they take on Mapua.

Being the only bright spot for the Generals in their loss to the San Beda Red Lions, Munsayac sprained his right foot with three minutes left after inadvertently stepping on Jayvee Mocon’s foot with three minutes left in the game.

Munsayac left the game with 21 points and the Generals’ chances of making a comeback against the mighty Red Lions went with him as they dropped their second straight game after winning their opener against College of St. Benilde.

“Sabi ng PTs, pipilitin nila makahabol ng Tuesday. Pinainom ako ng pain relievers so di ko alam yung tunay na pain, pero ito nga right foot sprain,” said Munsayac.

“Stats don’t matter pag talo. Kahit anong mangyari, pag natalo hindi dapat nila isipin na si Francis mataas yung points, hindi kasi team kami e. Tayo dapat. Dapat wag titingin sa stats. Tiyaka niyo na tingnan yung stats pagka-nanalo tayo,” he added.

The diminutive guard also defended Hamadou Laminou, who has struggled in their past two games.

After coming up with 21 points in their opener, the Cameroonian center is just averaging 10 a game in both losses, having made just five of his 25 shots combined against Letran and San Beda.

Munsayac said that it was Laminou’s willingness to carry his team which forced the center to take bad shots in his previous games.

“Siyempre, kung yung will mo manalo, gagawin mo talaga lahat. Kahit hindi ka na nakakabasket, ititira mo pa rin kasi gusto mo talaga manalo e, kahit panget na yung nangyayari, pinipilit niya (Laminou) pa rin,” said Munsayac.

“Kinakausap naman namin siya. Nakikinig naman yan e di naman matigas ulo niya. Ilang games na siyang panget ang nilalaro pero willing naman siya magbago para sa next game namin,” he added.

But they have even bigger issues to resolve, particularly in their team defense after giving up an average of 82 points in those losses.

That’s an issue that they have to resolve quick if they want to end this skid.

“Kailangan namin iimprove yung defense talaga. Nagkakagulo kami talaga dahil sa defense. Yun ang wino-workout namin ngayon.”
