MAKE it five straight for Lyceum.
The Pirates continued to roll this NCAA Season 94 seniors’ basketball tournament, sending Mapua crashing back to earth with a 94-81 triumph on Friday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Reigning MVP CJ Perez paced his side with a near triple-double of 19 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists, as well as having three steals and a block.
Mike Nzeusseu also hosted his own block party with four shotblocks on top of his 16 points and 16 rebounds.
Jaycee Marcelino added 13, while MJ Ayaay fired four of his 11 in the payoff period when the Pirates went on a late flurry after the Cardinals cut the deficit to as low as four, 80-76 with 3:42 left.
“Again, we know that teams are not gonna take us lightly. Gone are the days when we’re a team that was not taken seriously. We expect these games to be tighter. It’s gonna benefit us because we’re always gonna be on our toes,” said coach Topex Robinson.
Lyceum recovered after a slow start, using a 29-point third quarter explosion to erect a 68-55 lead and take control of the game.
“We were more aggressive attacking the basket. That’s the adjustment we made in the third quarter,” said Robinson.
Laurenz Victoria paced Mapua (1-2) with 20 points and three rebounds, while Eric Jabel had 18 and three.
