FAR Eastern University dealt a hapless University of Santo Tomas side a 96-70 beating on Sunday in the UAAP Season 80 men's basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
The Tamaraws were hardly threatened in a game where they led by as many as 36 points, hiking their record to 5-4 (win-loss) by bouncing back from a loss to La Salle.
The Growling Tigers, who played without starters Steve Akomo and Jordan Sta. Ana, remained winless through nine games in a damned campaign under second-year coach Boy Sablan.
Ken Tuffin led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points for the Tamaraws, who started with a 7-0 lead and never looked back.
Arvin Tolentino, returning from a one-game suspension, finished with 13 points, five rebounds, and three steals for FEU.
Wendell de Guzman and Jeepy Faundo tallied 17 points each for the Tigers, who played shorthanded as Akomo was nursing an illness while Sta. Ana was injured in practice on the eve of the match.
"It's too bad for UST na wala 'yung top two players nila," said FEU coach Olsen Racela. "I kept reminding the boys that 'yung mga losses ng UST, although before the game 0-8 sila, were close games."
