EMILIO Aguinaldo College took its most impressive win yet in the NCAA Season 101 after blowing out Arellano University, 84-73, in the cross-bracket affair on Friday at the Playtime Filoil Center in San Juan.
Cris Shanoda powered the Generals' big secon quarter as they took control of the game for good, taking a 49-37 lead at the interval - an advantage they'd never relinquish enrout to their second win against three losses.
After Shanoda delivered the goods in the first half Wilmar Oftana, took the wheel in the second half, scoring 11 in that stretch as the Generals padded on their lead for that breezy win.
Despite the impressive win, EAC head coach Jerson Cabiltes isn't about to get ahead of himself.
“There’s no easy game in the NCAA. It’s my third year here. Every team prepares, every school prepares hard for each game. If you play relaxed, definitely kakainin ka ng kalaban,” Cabiltes said.
Oftana led the way for the Generals by going 5-of-8 from the three point area to finish with 19 points to go along three assists and three steals.
Brianne Angeles chipped in 15 points, Jude Bagay added 12 points and five boards while Shanoda fired all of his 11 points in the first half.
With their previous loss mainly being due to San Beda’s paint dominance, EAC course corrected and outhustled Arellano on the boards, 48 to their 37, opening them up to more than triple second chance points.
Despite the best efforts of Renzo Abiera, who had the lion's share of 24 points, the double-digit lead that EAC carried into the second half proved too big a hurdle for the 2-3 Chiefs.
T-Mc Ongotan was the only other flank for Abiera with his 13 points and six steals.
