SAN Sebastian coach Egay Macaraya has been slapped with a one-game suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct during a timeout in a game against Lyceum two weeks ago.
The NCAA Management Committee (Mancom) handed the penalty on Tuesday after a review of the tapes in the Golden Stags' tiff against Lyceum Pirates on July 23.
NCAA issued a statement but did not provide details of Macaraya's violation in the game won by the Pirates, 80-69. Macaraya was caught on video during the huddle telling a San Sebastian player to slap the hand of Lyceum center Mike Nzeusseu, who had missed several games due to a hand injury.
"Macaraya was meted a 1 game suspension, he is also to make a public apology and community service," the NCAA said in the statement.
NCAA basketball commissioner Tonichi Pujante has made his recommendations, with the Mancom, led by chairman Peter Cayco of hosts Arellano, finally dropping the hammer.
On top of his one-game ban, Macaraya is also required to issue a public apology and take part in a community service.
The outspoken San Sebastian bench tactician is set to serve his suspension on Friday against Emilio Aguinaldo College, with his side looking to halt a three-game losing skid with its 2-3 win-loss card.
