IT seems that all the issues that haunted San Sebastian last season is all in the past now.

Stags head coach Egay Macaraya can breathe easy, for now, as they cruised to another comfortable win in the NCAA Season 95, beating the Mapua Cardinals, 92-68, on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Center.

After a tough season that saw a bunch of players leave, compounded by RK Ilagan’s ligang labas issue, the Stags are all smiles now.

“You know I’m praying and hoping this continues. This is just our second game and marami pang mangyayari,” said Macaraya.

“I hope na we will stay as a family and as a team together, walang madisgrasya, walang mainjure, mawala yung distractions and all those things because sayang naman ang preparation at pinaghirapan namin,” he added.

The Stags opened their campaign with an 82-51 win over the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers before putting on another offensive show in whipping the Cardinals.

Macaraya attributed their early to success to their depth as they proved they’re more than just RK Ilagan and Allyn Bulanadi.

In this win, six players breached double digits for the Stags as they got solid performances from Alex Desoyo, Ken Villapando, JM Calma and Alvin Capobres.

It’s exactly what Macaraya hoped to see prior to the season, and if this trend continues - then then the Stags may be better than what people are actually giving them credit for.

“That’s the fruit of our labors, yung lahat ng ginagawa namin sa D-League lumalabas na and then we’re adjusting some more. Installing the motion offense where everybody can touch the ball,” said Macaraya.

“The D-League and the preseason games nagkaron sila lahat ng kumpyansa. Second and third year na sila Alex [Desoyo] so I guess the maturity and bond of the team is now showing,” he added.

Now it’s all about translating this good start to the Stags’ return to NCAA supremacy.

“We’re showing a new character of San Sebastian. We have a new focus and goal, sana mawala na lahat yung distraction. I’m happy and proud na kahit maliliit kami we’re doing fine.”
