EDGAR Charcos scored Perpetual Help’s last 11 points as the Altas scored a thrilling 80-78 win over Mapua on Tuesday in the NCAA Season 95 seniors basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The veteran playmaker fired 16 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals as the Altas started the season off on a good note.
"It's a show of character para sa team ko. I felt na Mapua is really stronger than our team. In fact sa preseason tinambakan kami ng 38 points and kakaba-kaba din ako going to the game. So it's guts," said coach Frankie Lim.
Tonton Peralta paced Perpetual with 20 points, two boards and two assists, while Jielo Razon had 10 points and two rebounds. Ben Adamos tallied eight points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks.
It was a tough first game in the seniors level for new Cardinals head coach Randy Alcantara.
Warren Bonifacio led Mapua with 15 points and nine rebounds, while rookie Cyril Gonzales got 14 points, five boards, five steals and three dimes.
