PERPETUAL Help showed no sign of distraction amid an eligibility controversy, getting the job done against San Sebastian in overtime 85-77 to continue its winning ways in the NCAA Season 94 on Thursday in San Juan.
It was business as usual for the boys of coach Frankie Lim as they went on a 17-2 tear to bridge the regulation and overtime and take an all-important win despite reports of a looming protest over player eligibility.
With the Stags ahead 69-64 with 1:49 left, Edgar Charcos led a spirited Altas charge, scoring the game tying three-point play with 40 seconds left in the game.
In the overtime, it was all Altas with AJ Coronel and Tonton Peralta nailing the telling threes in the extra period to finish off the Stags and get their fifth straight win and improve to 10-5.
"It shows a lot of character from my players. It all boils down to proper execution of our plays and looking for Prince. Charcos made a much-needed three-point play," said head coach Frankie Lim.
"Sabi ko nga kanina, malakas yung San Sebastian, they have the materials to win games. We were just lucky to come back from five points down in the last minute. Sometimes, it's better to be lucky than to be good," he added.
Prince Eze played all 45 minutes and finished with 25 points, 23 rebounds and four blocks to lead the Altas as Coronel added 15 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Jielo Razon added 13 points and nine boards as Charcos chipped in 12 points and seven assists.
Alvin Capobres led the Stags with 18 points as they dropped to 4-11.
