EMILIO Aguinaldo College ended its three-game slide in the NCAA Season 93 after hacking out a 61-57 win over University of Perpetual Help on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Center.

Sydney Onwubere overcame fatigue as he finished with 21 points and 17 rebounds, including four crucial free throws in the endgame to grind out the victory.

The win came despite the Generals going without a field goal in the final five minutes as they relied on their steady hands from the charity stripe.

The Generals drained 11 of their 12 attempts from the free throw line while relying on critical defensive stops on the other end.

This includes forcing back-to-back turnovers from Flash Sadiwa and Gab Dagangon, with Sadiwa passing on a wide open three only to throw the ball away, and Dagangon losing the ball on the inbounds.

"We gave our hearts in this game. Since last game ito in the first round, we cannot allow them to beat us so we really have to win this game," said EAC head coach Ariel Sison.

"Relieved ako ngayon kasi sabi ko sa kanila, yung close game (losses) na yan kailangan na ma-overcome. Di na pwede yung sayang lang," he added.

Francis Munsayac backstopped Onwubere's efforts as he finished with 16 points as Jerome Garcia chipped in eight points.

Prince Eze led Perpetual Help with 14 points and 20 rebounds.

The win allowed the Generals to finish the first round with a respectable 4-5 slate and get their first win sans Hamadou Laminou.

The Altas, on the other hand, dropped to 3-6 to wrap up the first round.
