SAN Beda rolled to its fifth straight win in the NCAA Season 93 as it made short work of hapless Mapua, 66-55, Friday at the Filoil Flying V Center.
The Red Lions took advantage of the absence of the Cardinals' top gunner in Andoy Estrella, out for three weeks due to an MCL injury and Leo Gabo who played hurt for a few minutes before being pulled out.
Without the two, the Cardinals' struggle was apparent with the Red Lions taking a 22-6 lead after the first 10 minutes and padded it to 25 points, before letting up a bit in the fourth, much to the dismay of coach Boyet Fernandez.
However, they had just enough of a buffer in the end to hack out another tough win against the depleted Cardinals, who trimmed the lead to just nine late but eventually ran out of time.
"Sayang lang injured yung mga top players ni coach Atoy. If we played the way we played in the fourth quarter, and andun sila, they had a chance of winning this," said Fernandez.
"I hope we'll learn from this. If we'll play the way we play in the fourth quarter sa ibang games, we'll have problems," he added.
Donald Tankoua looked close to top shape as he led the Red Lions with 11 points and 16 rebounds while JV Mocon chipped in 10 points and six boards as San Beda improved to 6-1.
Christian Bunag had 20 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks but his career game went down the drain as they fell even deeper in the standings with a 1-6 record.
