DONALD Tankoua made a triumphant return to the NCAA as he played an integral part in San Beda’s 76-67 win over San Sebastian in the Season 93 opener on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The 6-foot-7 Cameroonian scored 10 points and eight rebounds in 16 minutes of play to make good in his return from an ACL injury last season.
Despite a respectable return, Tankoua shared that he’s still a bit frustrated with his level of fitness in this game.
“It wasn’t good. I was frustrated because of the game,” said Tankoua, who averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds before the injury shortened his season last year.
“It’s been a long time that I didn’t play. I just hope I can be back to feeling better,” he added.
The 22-year-old slotman bared that he’s still not fully fit and his road to recovery is still ongoing.
“I did a lot of practices with my therapist, did therapy, and I’m still in therapy,” he continued.
“Now I’m at 80 perecent,” he added.
But full force or not, Tankoua has faith that his teammates will step up if ever it takes long for him to get back to his desired shape.
They proved that exactly last year when they regained the title without him, and he’s confident that they can do it now while he’s slowly – but surely – recovering.
“They’re very good, just like last year when I got injured then they stepped up and they played well, got into the championship so they’re all good,” said Tankoua.
