ST. Benilde coach TY Tang says the loss to Lyceum won’t dampen the Blazers confidence, and even lauded the squad for a decent finish.

He even said he believes that the Blazers, yet to score a win over the Pirates since 2016, are capable of getting the victory.

"I still feel that were capable of beating them. Siguro masyado lang lumaki yung lamang," he said after the 74-71 defeat on Friday.

St. Benilde has not beaten Lyceum since 2016, when it avoided the ignominy of a winless season with a 65-61 victory back in the final game of NCAA Season 92.

Tang believes they can soon get back at the Pirates.

Fuelling his belief was the way the Blazers showed tremendous grit after falling behind by 20, 68-48, in the third period and made things interesting in the fourth quarter.

"I like how we finished the game in terms of trying and trying and trying, and we never gave up all the way through," he said.

    Lyceum committed 25 turnovers.

Unfortunately, the Blazers' old demons also caught up to them, with Tang lamenting on the consistent mental mistakes he has been addressing ever since the season started.

"But there's certain lapses that we're all aware of before the game and we made the same errors. It's a mental error on our end and we just have to be more focused in a way that everybody can be in one page the whole game. Maturity is still a part of the things that we still have to learn and get through."

Still, St. Benilde remains within striking distance of the leaders with a 5-1 win-loss record behind only San Beda at 6-0 and Lyceum at 6-1.

And the Blazers can't mope now, especially with another pair of killer games ahead of them against San Beda on Friday and Letran on August 27.

"The confidence shouldn't go down. I feel we're still zoned in in terms of our next few games," he said.

"They know how tough this season will be from the very beginning. We've had a painful experience from the previous season, and for sure there's still a sting sa amin. And I feel because of those two things and the hunger, we'll break through one day. Not today, but probably against San Beda or Letran, we'll be able to get at least one of those games."
