    Defense does it again as San Beda shackles Mapua for fourth straight win

    SAN Beda once again leaned on its airtight defense to assert its mastery over Mapua 80-55 in the NCAA Season 94 on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

    For the third straight game, the Red Lions kept their opponents below 60 points as they won their fourth straight to improve to 10-1 and keep up with the unbeaten Lyceum.

    “We played really good defense, starting the second quarter, we limited our opponents to eight in the second quarter kaya lumamang kami against Mapua,” said San Beda head coach Boyet Fernandez.

    “Mapua did a good job, they really played and prepared for us. This is a good win for us because we look forward to playing Letran on Tuesday and Perpetual on Friday,” he added.

    The Red Lions grounded the Cardinals in the second quarter, limiting the boys of coach Atoy Co to just eight points to formally turn the game into a blowout.

    There was no letup for the reigning champions as they pounced on the hapless Cardinals who dropped their sixth straight to fall to 2-8.

    Donald Tankoua finished with a game high 24 points to go along eight boards.

    Calvin Oftana added 11 while Robert Bolick had good numbers across the board with seven points, eight assists and six rebounds.

    Laurenz Victoria paced the Cardinals with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists while Cedric Pelayo added 12.
