DESPITE a tough stint in the Filoil preseason tournament, College of St. Benilde coach TY Tang said he is pleased with the Blazers’ progress.

CSB had one win in eight games, bowing out with a 104-88 loss to National University on Sunday.

Still, Tang said he is pleased to see the Blazers give NCAA and UAAP teams a good fight.

"You can still see the lack of maturity in our team. It's just that I think now that we have been able to compete not only with NCAA teams but, as you can see, UAAP teams. It's not an easy win for them. They still need to play their best and try to win it.

Tang said that unlike the past seasons, St. Benilde no longer allows rival teams easy wins.

The Blazers only lost in double-digits once, and was beaten by University of the Philippines by seven and by Far Eastern University by only six.

The closest was against NCAA Season 92 runner-up Arellano, which beat St. Benilde by only four points.

"Hindi siya 'yung kapag kalaban kami, binibigay na lang sa kanila. That's one part that we look into. It's really a positive thing for us. We never gave up all the way until the buzzer, nandoon kami," said Tang.

Tang recognizes much work is still to be done in order for the Blazers as they try to rise from the bottom of Season 92, when they went 1-17.

"Lack of maturity namin in terms of offense, making good decisions whether on offense or defense. At the end of the day, it's mental lapse and it's too much for us to compete and win games," said Tang.
