Clint Escamis explains decision to play out final year for Mapua

For one, going back-to-back is something that he wants to achieve for the Cardinals

WHEN Clint Escamis announced that he would be playing his senior year for Mapúa University, fans were quick to call his move a waste of time.

Seeing his career as already cemented with an NCAA championship, most valuable player, finals MVP, mythical five, rookie of the year, and all-defensive team in just two seasons, there isn’t really much else left for the Manila native to achieve.

But for Escamis, there is one big reason for him to stay aside from finishing his studies–fending off other takers of their crown.

“Siyempre, personal goals ko is siyempre mag-back to back and be the best that I can be as a player,” he said.”

“This is what I really want, to finish my college career in Mapúa. Isasagad ko na for my last year, and hopefully, go for back-to-back.”

Admitting that he’s aware of the opinions thrown around his stay, Escamis claims that they don’t really hold that much weight in terms of his decision-making.

The only voice that matters to him is his family and of course the team that accepted him back and shaped him to be the player that he is today.

“Alam ako yun, madami talagang mga bosses na umaaligid dyan, nagsasabi sa akin,” he said.

“But syempre, I keep [the] circle close. Sa family ko, and syempre sa team.”
