COLLEGE of St. Benilde finished its season off with a flyer as it snapped Letran's six-game winning run in NCAA Season 94 with a 94-81 victory on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Carlo Young hit timely 3-pointers in the fourth to fend off every Letran rally, taking the cue from Clement Leutcheu and Justin Gutang who led the Blazers' hot start.
While the victory was a nice way to end things for the Blazers, it wasn't enough to catapult them to a Final Four despite ending at 10-8.
A win, however, in the boardroom could very well do the trick.
As of positng time, the board is still discussing whether or not it will sanction season host Perpetual Help for an alleged eligibility infraction, which in the worst case could forfeit the Altas’ won games in the tournament.
If that happens, the Blazers could be making their return to the Final Four for the first time in 15 years.
"Sa ngayon, I don't know what happened sa Mancomm. Come what may, it's still a great season for us. Some disappointments here and there but it's a good painful experience for us," said St. Benilde coach TY Tang.
"We wanted to end with a strong season ender for us. It's been a long time since we ended with a winning record," he added.
Leutcheu finished with 19 points and five rebounds as Yankie Haruna had 15 points, six rebounds and five assists. Young and Gutang added 13 and 12 respectively.
Bong Quinto paced the Knights with 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists as they finished the season with a 13-5 record.
They'll be making their first Final Four appearance under three-year coach Jeff Napa when they take on the second seeded Lyceum Pirates on Friday.
