LYCEUM overcame a tough stand from the defending champions and some controversial calls down the line to outlast San Beda in double-overtime, 107-105, on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

The Pirates completed an 18-game sweep of the double-round elimination and book the first championship appearance in school history.

With the Pirates in control of the first half, Donald Tankoua led a huge San Beda fightback to set the stage for the thrilling finish.

The match almost ended in controversial fashion in the first extension when the referee called a foul on JC Marcelino with 1.5 seconds left, right after Perez put the Pirates on the driver's seat, 97-96.

Luckily for the Pirates, Bolick split the free throws and a second overtime had to be played.

"I have so much faith in coach Bai, yung referees tao lang din yan. They make mistakes. I just told my players not to dwell on the referee's mistakes and not use them as an excuse," Robinson said.

Nzeusseu finished with 27 points and 21 rebounds as Perez added 20 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Tankoua paced the Red Lions with 34 points and 13 rebounds as they ended the elimination round with a 16-2 record.

The Lions also face a tougher task in the stepladder system where they don't hold a twice-to-beat incentive even as No. 2 seeds.

    The scores:

    Lyceum 107 – Nzeusseu 27, Perez 20, Marcelino JC 9, Caduyac 9, Pretta 8, Santos 8, Ayaay 7, Baltazar 6, Serrano 6, Marcelino JV 4, Ibanez 1

    San Beda 105 – Tankoua 34, Bolick 16, Mocon 14, Doliguez 13, Abuda 8, Presbitero 6, Soberano 5, Noah 4, Oftana 3, Cabanag 2, Potts 0, Bahio 0, Adamos 0
