ST. Benilde has the MVP in Will Gozum, but coach Charles Tiu couldn't help but feel that Letran's Louie Sangalang was the better man in Game One of the NCAA Season 98 seniors basketball Finals on Sunday.

"I told Will straight up, you're the MVP but you didn't look like the MVP. Sangalang was the MVP and he ate everybody alive," he said after the Blazers' 81-75 loss to the Knights.

Sangalang was the rock for Letran in the series opener, making all but one of his 11 shots for a career-best 24 points, to go with 10 rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block.

"He's a monster in there," Tiu said in awe. "We prepared for that the whole week pero pagdating ng game nawawala. Great performance by Sangalang, just a monster game and I really tip my hat to him."

Gozum had a solid statline of 18 points, 11 boards, and two assists, but missed a big part of the fourth quarter due to cramps.

Sangalang's impact down low was one problem that CSB must address in time for Game Two, with much of the pressure falling on Gozum's shoulders.

Tiu expects his Blazers to respond mightily in this do-or-die game for them come Sunday at the Big Dome.

"We just try to encourage them that we can compete with this Letran team even though they beat us three times [this season]," he said, pointing to top-seed CSB's two losses in the elims to the defending champions.

"The good thing is it's a series and not a one-game thing. We have to learn from this and just wish they listen to our instructions more."
