LETRAN pulled out all the stops in the endgame as it lived to fight another day in the NCAA Season 93 with a pulsating 70-68 win over Arellano on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Center.
Jeo Ambohot saved Letran from the hot-shooting Arellano pair of Rence Alcoriza and Levi dela Cruz as he scored the go-ahead basket with 3.3 seconds to go.
With Rey Nambatac getting all the attention on Letran's final attack, Ambohot was left unmarked to score the putback and give the Knights a 69-68 lead.
Dela Cruz then turned from hero to goat as his inbound pass hit the corner of the board resulting in an Arellano turnover.
The win allowed the Knights to forge a date with the San Sebastian Stags on Tuesday in a one-game knockout for the final spot in the Final Four.
The Chiefs also bowed out of the season, a disappointing end after a scintillating run in the end of the elimination round to put themselves on the verge of making it to the semifinals.
"Gaya ng sinabi ko, kailagnan talaga maglaro ng A-game against Arellano kahit wala si [Kent] Salado. Team sila maglaro kaya hanggang dulo mahirap talaga," said Letran coach Jeff Napa.
"Kailangan lang namin maging disciplined. Madami pa kaming ayusin sa practice dahil may lapses pa kami," he added.
Nambatac paced the Knights with 25 points and nine rebounds as JP Calvo finished with 11 points while Bong Quinto and Jerrick Balanza added nine and eight apiece.
It wasn't exactly how Alcoriza and Dela Cruz hoped the game would end as the two put on an amazing shooting display, combining for all of 19 points of the Chiefs in the fourth period.
Dela Cruz led the Chiefs with 18 points as Alcoriza added 16.
