ARELLANO dealt Perpetual a stone-cold stunner in NCAA Season 102 in an 88-65 decision at the Philsports Arena on Friday.
The Chiefs raced right out the gates with a 31-point first quarter, giving them enough wiggle room to last the next three frames.
Leading that barrage were veterans T-Mc Ongotan and Maverick Vinoya, who combined for 28 points in the overwhelming victory that keeps them unbeaten through three starts.
Arellano also played its cleanest performance yet, recording just seven turnovers while earning 17 points off of Perpetual’s errors.
And for head coach Chico Manabat, it's a shining testament to their chemistry.
“Siguro yan yung togetherness,” Manabat humbly stated.
“So yung cohesion ng team nandun na. We limit yung mga dati nga namin na marami kami, and sa practice talagang nagiging detailed kami diyan, binibreak down namin. And then sa stats sinusulat talaga namin kung aning dapat.”
Even after being narrowly chased by Perpetual in scoring during the second and third quarters, The Chiefs proved to have an extra gear in them, closing the game-out in the fourth quarter to cruise to the victory.
According to the fourth year shot caller, the right adjustments came at the perfect time, and along came their most imposing win so far.
“Nakita namin kung ano yung mga dapat namin na kontrolado. And magiging successful pag together kami nga maglalaro.“
Ongotan added four rebounds and three assists to his 13 points, while Yuan Camay and Basti Valencia added 10 apiece.
Meanwhile, Perpetual’s JM Tulabut led the losing effort with 16 points and five boards on perfect shooting from the field. The Altas dropped to 2-2 in Group B.
