PAENG Are may have not led San Sebastian to the Final Four of NCAA Season 100, but he did come away with the scoring title at the end of the seniors basketball eliminations.

The Golden Stags guard drained 17.88 points to emerge as the top scorer in the centennial year of the Grand Ol’ League.

Are nosed out first round leader John Barba of Lyceum who placed at close second with his 17.61 points.

Letran spitfire Jimboy Estrada was at third among the top scorers with his 16.76 points, followed by Jose Rizal University forward Joshua Guiab with 16.56 points, and Mapua playmaker Clint Escamis with 15.44 points.

Completing the top 10 are King Gurtiza of Emilio Aguinaldo College (15.17 points), Allen Liwag of St. Benilde (14.61 points), TJ Felebrico of San Sebastian (13.89 points), Shawn Argente of JRU (13.61 points), and Renz Villegas of LPU (13.22 points).

Guiab actually had the best field goal mark, making 59.88 of his shots, as well as the best clip from inside the arc with his 65.75-percent clip.

Mapua guard MC Cuenco was the best gunslinger in the league, making 43.62-percent of his shots from deep. Pursuing him were San Beda forward Jomel Puno (41.3-percent), LPU’s Villegas (39.34-percent), San Sebastian’s Nikko Aguilar (39.13-percent), and San Beda’s Emman Tagle (36.84-percent).

Liwag, meanwhile, was head and shoulders above everyone else in the rebounding department with his 11.28 boards built from a league-leading 7.89 defensive and 3.39 offensive rebounds.

Following him were Felebrico (8.89 rebounds), Estrada (7.53 rebounds), LPU’s JM Bravo (7.0 rebounds), and Arellano’s Lorenz Capulong (6.56 rebounds).

Estrada seized the top dimer spot with his 5.82 assists, edging LPU’s Greg Cunanan who had 5.18 assists. Completing the top five in the assists department were Are (4.35 assists), CSB’s Tony Ynot (4.29 assists), and Escamis (4.0 assists).

The Letran guard’s appearance in those three critical categories makes his one-game suspension hurt even more as it got him ineligible to win any individual award.

He, however, also had the most turnovers this season, averaging 4.82 miscues per game. Also among the most error-prone players this year were Mapua’s Chris Hubilla (2.61 turnovers), Perpetual’s Shawn Orgo (2.58 turnovers), Barba (2.56 turnovers), and CSB’s Justine Sanchez (2.44 turnovers).

Are also was the top steals man with his 2.53 snatches, besting Cunanan (2.12 steals), Escamis (1.89 steals), Arellano’s T-mc Ongotan (1.72 steals), and San Sebastian’s Raymart Escobido (1.67 steals).

Letran banger Kevin Santos maintained his spot as the best swatter in the league with his 2.13 blocks, almost a full rejection ahead of everyone in the top five which included JRU’s Ivan Panapanaan (1.28 blocks), Liwag (1.22 blocks), EAC’s Gelo Loristo (1.17 blocks), and Capulong (1.0 block).
