SAINT BENILDE responded to its first loss in NCAA Season 100 with a renewed sense of urgency as it vented its ire on Lyceum,103-78, in a game that was pretty much done after the first half last Friday.
The Blazers opened a 19 point halftime lead and never looked back, leading by as many as 29 points before cruising to a win to bounce back from their shock defeat to the Letran Knights last Sunday.
Allen Liwag starred in the blowout, finishing with 22 points and 12 rebounds as the Blazers improved to 5-1 and kept a stronghold of the top spot in the standings.
“After nung game namin na natalo kami, nagkanya kanya kaming review kung anong nangyari sa game na yun. After nun nag move on na kami and nag look forward na kami sa LPU,” Liwag said.
“Pagbalik namin sa ensayo go-hard na talaga, kasi di kami pwede mag-relax. Lahat ng teams gusto kami talunin e.”
Justine Sanchez had a perfect night for the Blazers as he made all five shots from the field while also going 8/8 from the foul line to finish with 18 points alongside five assists.
John Mowell Morales, on the other hand, scored all of his 10 points in the first half where the Blazers broke the game wide open.
McLaude Guadana led the way for the Pirates with 26 points while Gyle Montano added 14 for the Pirates who dropped to 3-3 as they saw their three-game winning streak snapped.
Ato Barba, a guy averaging 26 points in that three-game stretch, was limited to just 12 points on 5-14 shooting as he struggled with foul trouble for most of the game.
