RANDY Alcantara and Yong Garcia have taken over the Mapua seniors and juniors basketball team, respectively, according to sources.
Alcantara and Garcia have held practices with their respective teams this week, said the source, signaling the start of a new chapter for the Mapua basketball program.
Alcantara, a two-time Mapua juniors champion, is now the head man of the seniors program after being appointed to place legend Atoy Co.
Garcia, meanwhile, takes over the post left by Alcantara, who led the Red Robins to the NCAA Season 92 and 94 basketball titles. The Red Robins beat last year’s titlist La Salle Greenhills in the finals this season.
The former Mapua standouts are also part of the coaching staff of the San Juan Knights in the MPBL with Alcantara serving as the head coach.
Garcia is also the head coach of Marinerong Pilipino in the PBA D-League.
