VOLLEYBALL star Aby Maraño had a game to win for F2 Logistics on Thursday in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix, but admitted she had a hard time focusing with boyfriend Robert Bolick locked in a battle in the NCAA Finals.
Maraño admitted she never got to settle down until some random guy approached her with the good news.
F2 Logistics and Marano won the game against Generika-Ayala, but on this night the volleyball star wore the hat as supportive girlfriend after Bolick led San Beda to a second successive NCAA championship following an 92-82 win over Lyceum in Game Two.
“Masasabi ko lang na sobrang proud ako na girlfriend ako ni Bolick," said Marano, "kasi nakikita ko talaga 'yung sarili ko sa kanya. BMDC (beast-mode-don’t-care attitude) naman din talaga siya maglaro.”
Marano had been with Bolick through the player's struggles as a seldom-used bench player at La Salle down to his renaissance at San Beda.
That made this latest achievement all the more sweeter, Marano said.
“Ang sarap-sarap sa pakiramdam kasi nga nasubaybayan ko 'yung struggles niya dati. Every day na magkasama kami, kita mong nandoon 'yung depression,” said the outspoken Maraño.
“Ngayon, makikita mo na bumalik talaga lahat ng confidence niya and kung sino talaga siya as a basketball player. Napakasarap sa feeling,” she added.
With two championships in the bag for his boyfriend, Maraño hopes to see Bolick graduate as a champion with the Red Lions - something she failed to do at La Salle after the Lady Spikers bowed to arch-rival Ateneo in her farewell UAAP season.
“Sana gumraduate siya ng maganda, ng champion. Sana maramdaman niya 'yung feeling to graduate as a champion. Kahit hindi ko naramdaman 'yun, 'yun ang pangarap ko sa kanya,” she said.
Maraño had previously said that she will plans to reward Bolick with a trip to Balesin, a members-only, private leisure getaway, next year.
But she is really in no hurry to see her man make the jump to the PBA, for one reason.
“Madaming stress pag nag-PBA siya. Siyempre, ang daming babae, pinaghahandaan ko din 'yun. Alam natin 'yan. 'Yun lang stress ko sa pag-PBA niya. Madaming babae diyan na ‘di maaawat,” she said.
